Painting

So let’s see what we can do with all of this stuff

First off is the junction box needed to separate the 24 pin ATX cable into five parts that will be ended with XLR connectors. This box will also distribute power everywhere in the case. I am forced to build an external box because there simply isn't room inside the PSU chassis. This box also needs a support that will fix it to the top of the case.

This support is cut out from red 3mm sheet acrylic - that's perspex / plexi depending on where you are from. It is sandwiched between the two electronic boxes. The boxes themselves are held closed by four M4 black bolts that fit snugly into the recessed holes. Hands up if you think the default grey looks a bit rubbish...

Fast forward a few hours and here we are. I have drilled many holes; the very large ones face inwards in the 'sandwich' and line up with the two holes in the acrylic. The two dozen or so smaller holes in the various surfaces are for the things you see here: LEDs; connector jacks; passing braided cable in / out of the boxes etc.

After drilling, I applied two coats of the dark grey spray paint, and one coat of the clear sealer. Now it’s time to perform some modding on the PSU itself.

The first step is to dismantle it and continue with the painting process. Even the Sanyo Denki blower can't escape the paint treatment.

After the painting job, time to add some extra lighting to the PSU’s front panel
